Chapter News and Announcements

1. Student Scholarship Applications are now available for the 51st Annual Milwaukee AHEPA Chapter 43 Scholarship Foundation 2010 Awards. The applications are available at Sts. Constantine & Helen and Annunciation Greek Orthodox Churches, as well as High Schools throughout the four-county Metro Area of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington, and Waukesha and may also be downloaded from our website at www.ahepa43.org. Applications must be postmarked no later than MARCH 1, 2010. For more information please contact James Jafferis at 262-786-7574.
The Awards luncheon will be held Sunday May 2, 2010 at the Bluemound Country Club.

2. The Annual “Kathara Deftera” Lenten Dinner sponsored by Hector #107 Daughters of Penelope will be held on Monday, February 15, 2010 immediately following the Great Compline Service at 6pm at Annuciation Church ( dinner will be served in the cultural center). 3. MARCH 10-14, 2010 : 2ND ANNUAL AHEPA MARROW BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT in CHICAGO!!!! Last year’s event raised in excess of $100,000 and had 60 teams participate including 2 from our Chapter. We hope to field boys, girls, women’s, and Men’s teams for this year’s tournament. Those players and coaches interested in participating please contact Tim Stasinoulias for more details at 262.442.0422.

4. The Greek Independence Day Parade organized by ENOSIS, will again take place in Chicago’s GREEKTOWN on Sunday April 25, 2010 starting at 1:30pm. Milwaukee’s Chapter 43 plans to march with their fellow brothers along side the District 13 float. All Ahepans and their families are welcome. If there is enough interest we may be able to rent a bus like we did last year.(it was a lot of fun!) Please visit enosis.org for more information. We will have sign up sheets at our Lodge starting March 1.

5. NEW THIS YEAR! The Regional District 13 Banquet will be held in Chicago on Saturday May 1, 2010 at 6pm. Further details to follow.

6. The Annual District 13 Convention will be held in Merrillville, Indiana in June 2010.

7. The AHEPA Lodge is now SMOKE-FREE and the Social Club has voluntarily and permanently vacated. Card playing will be allowed only as part of a fund-raiser. Other uses for this space are actively being pursued.

8. Last but not least! If you haven’t done so, please pay your 2009 dues asap. Also, we are now accepting 2010 dues. Thanks to our brothers who are current.

President’s Corner

This past Saturday I attended the District 13 Mid Year Conference in Chicago with our secretary brother Dan Dupies. We came away feeling that our chapter is much appreciated and highly regarded.(we are still the largest chapter). We also came away with some great ideas. There is great potential to do good things for our community, youth, culture, and churches. We should be proud of our Chapter and its 85 years of history as well the possibilities the future holds. Please join us in helping make our 86th year a great one.
